New Delhi. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways formally launched the BH (Bharat/Bharat) series for registration of new vehicles across the country from the beginning of this month. The BH series is the new number plate series introduced in the country for the registration of vehicles sometime back. This initiative of the government is a part of ‘citizen centric’ steps, so that the facility of mobility can be increased better. Along with this, vehicles across the country will be brought in one number plate series.
Main Purpose of BH Series
The main purpose of BH Series Number Plates for Vehicles is to remove the hassle of people who have a transferable job. Such people often have to change states for jobs and have to transfer their vehicle registration to the new state within 12 months as required under section 47 of the Motor Vehicles Act 1988.

The government will levy tax on such vehicles for 2 years or on multiple basis of 2-4, 6 or 8 years. Vehicle tax will also be levied annually after completion of 14th year of vehicle, which will be half of the amount of tax levied earlier.

The format of BH Series is YY BH #### XX. YY stands for the year of registration of the vehicle, while BH stands for Bharat Series Code. This is followed by numbers between 0000 and 9999, followed by letters.
Who can get BH Series number plate?
The new BH series number plate is not for everyone. Transferable job is required to apply for BH Series registration. For example, Central Government employees or those with transferable jobs in the private sector will be given preference while issuing this number plate. It is necessary for the people of the private sector to have offices in at least 4 states or union territories, only then the people working in it will be able to apply for this series.

How to get BH Series Number Plate?
If you are eligible for BH series, you can apply for it. To apply, one has to log on to the web portal of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways / MoRTH. This application can also be made at the dealer level when buying a new vehicle. For this, the dealer will have to fill Form 20 available on the portal on behalf of the vehicle owner. For this in the private sector, Form 60 has to be filled. It is necessary to attach Employment (Employment) ID and Working Certificate with this form. After the completion of the process the registration for the BH series gets completed.
