A major tragedy has happened in Champawat, Uttarakhand on Monday. In Danda area of Champawat district, a vehicle returning from a procession fell into a gorge on Monday night, in which 11 weddings were killed. There was a marriage in a family at this place, about 65 km from Champawat.
Police and rescue team reached the spot after getting information about the accident. 11 bodies have been pulled out of the ditch. Two people seriously injured in the accident have been brought to the district hospital for treatment. 11 out of 16 people died in a vehicle accident on the Sukhidhang-Dandaminar road attached to the Tanakpur-Champawat highway.
Police engaged in investigation of the case
The seriously injured driver and another person have been brought to the district hospital for treatment. According to the information received so far, all the people in the vehicle were returning home after attending the marriage held in Panchmukhi Dharamshala of Tanakpur. It is being told that at around 3.20 pm last night, the vehicle went uncontrollably and fell into a deep gorge.
Everyone had gone to attend the marriage of Manoj Singh, son of Laxman Singh, a resident of Kakanai. Most of the deceased are said to be relatives of Laxman Singh. The condition of the driver is more serious. The deceased belonged to Danda and Kathoti villages of Kakanai. The cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained, but the accident is suspected to have been caused by over-riding. However, the police is probing the matter.
