New Delhi. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken important decisions regarding the contracts of players, notably dropping Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer from the central contract list. Despite warnings, both players decided to skip the Ranji Trophy matches. As a result, he has been removed from the central contract list. BCCI has released the new list, in which Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja have been included in A+ grade, each will get an annual salary of Rs 7 crore. Six players have been placed in A grade and five in B grade, while fifteen players have been placed in C grade.
Kishan’s defiance stemmed from his desire to return to the national team after the break during the South Africa series, with instructions to participate in the Ranji Trophy. However, he disobeyed the BCCI’s instruction and did not play any matches for Jharkhand. BCCI clarified that players who are not on national duty will have to participate in the Ranji Trophy.
Meanwhile, Iyer faced a different situation as he was dropped from the Test series against England due to poor performances. He cited injury to rule him out of the Ranji Trophy, but the National Cricket Academy confirmed his fitness. Due to this, the future of Iyer and Kishan in the Indian team is in danger.
Rohit Sharma emphasized that the team management will not give preference to players who do not have the hunger to play. By taking action against Kishan and Iyer, BCCI has given a clear message that domestic cricket cannot be ignored at any cost. These developments highlight the importance of commitment to both domestic and international cricket for Indian players aspiring to represent their country at the highest level.
