DoT has once again taken a big action to stop online fraud and cyber crime. The Department of Telecommunications has blocked 906 mobile numbers and 372 mobile handsets. The government said that these mobile numbers and handsets were being used to cheat people. Cyber criminals were cheating people in the name of SBI Rewards by posing as LIC agents.

Many people had lodged complaints with the Department of Telecommunications regarding this. Jagrook Nagrik had reported 14 mobile numbers on the recently launched Chakshu portal. Within 24 hours, the Department of Telecommunications investigated them and all the mobile numbers associated with them were blocked. DoT said in its statement that a total of 906 mobile numbers have been blocked and sent for re-verification.
DoT said that these frauds were reported through the recently launched Chakshu portal and Sanchar Saathi. This prompt action of the Department of Telecommunications was taken to curb cyber crime and financial fraud and will continue in the future. People can report any kind of financial fraud and cyber crime on the Chakshu portal.
Preparations to curb financial fraud
The Department of Telecommunications said that people have an important contribution in reporting fake or spam calls coming from unknown numbers. Through Sanchar Sathi portal, they can report fraud communication received through call, SMS, WhatsApp message. In the last few months, there have been many cases of cyber criminals cheating people in the name of KYC update, sextortion, digital arrest, surprise gifts etc.
