New Delhi: The Supreme Court has refused to stay the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) survey of the Bhojshala complex in Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh. This has dealt a big blow to the Muslim side. While hearing the petition against the ASI survey, the court issued notice to the Central Government, ASI and Madhya Pradesh Government. Maulana Kamal Welfare Society had filed a petition demanding a ban on the survey in Bhojshala.
The court gave this instruction
The Supreme Court has said in an interim direction that no action should be taken without its permission based on the results of the survey. The court made it clear that no physical excavation should be done at the disputed sites which would change its appearance.
Survey going on for several days
Let us inform that the process of excavation is going on in the Bhojshala-Kamal Maula Masjid complex under the court-monitored survey of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). A person with knowledge of the survey said the soil and stones collected during the excavation are being kept safe by the ASI. This survey started on 22 March.
Ashish Goyal, representing Hindus, remained with the ASI team during the process. He said that the survey is being conducted without any break using new scientific methods, Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), Global Positioning System (GPS), carbon dating. He informed that videography and photography of the campus is also being done.
what is the controversy
Both Hindus and Muslims are laying claim to this complex. Hindus consider Bhojshala to be a temple dedicated to Vagdevi while Muslims call it Kamal Maula Masjid. According to the order of ASI issued on April 7, 2003, as per the arrangement, Hindus are allowed to offer prayers at Bhojshala every Tuesday, while Muslims are allowed to offer namaz at this place every Friday.
