Apart from this, there has also been a decline in the total unemployment rate between January and March. It has come down to 6.7 percent, which was earlier 6.8 percent.
Workforce participation increased to 50.2%
The labor force participation rate (LFPR) has increased to 50.2 percent between January to March 2024, which was 48.5 percent last year. The female labor force participation rate has increased to 25.6 percent in the March quarter of 2024. It was 22.7 percent in the March quarter last year. The female worker population ratio in urban areas has also increased to 23.4 percent in the March quarter of 2024, which was 20.6 percent in the same period last year. In the last 10 years, many steps have been taken by the Modi government to increase the number of women in labor participation. In 2017, maternity leave benefits were increased from 12 weeks to 26 weeks. At the same time, maternity leave for women adopting a child was increased to 12 weeks.
Change in rules for women
The government has also changed the rules keeping in mind the convenience of women working in night shifts. Now employers are required to provide pick-up and drop-off facilities to women doing night shifts.
