New Delhi. The UIDAI on Sunday issued a clarification after it published an advisory not to share photocopies of Aadhar cards to avoid misuse. In this the earlier advisory has been withdrawn. The clarification comes in the wake of a press release dated May 27, 2022 by the Bengaluru Regional Office, UIDAI, advising anyone not to provide photocopies of the Aadhar card, which was suspected to be misused. In a statement, the Ministry of Electronics and IT said, “People should not give a photocopy of Aadhar card to any institution, as it can be misused.” Instead, you can use Masked Aadhaar, in which only the last 4 digits of your Aadhaar number are visible. In view of the possibility of misinterpretation of the press release, it is withdrawn with immediate effect, the statement said.
It said that holders of Aadhaar cards issued by UIDAI have been advised to exercise common discretion in using and sharing their UIDAI Aadhaar numbers. He said, the Aadhaar identity authentication ecosystem has provided adequate facilities to protect and safeguard the identity and privacy of the Aadhaar holder.
