Shameful pictures came from West Bengal on Independence Day. Doctors who protested against the barbaric incident of rape and murder of a resident doctor were attacked. R.G. Kar Hospital was vandalized. Nurses and lady doctors present in the hospital were threatened with rape. The emergency ward of the hospital was completely destroyed. The attacking mob also tried to enter the seminar hall of the hospital, where the body of the resident doctor was found. A mob of hundreds attacked in the darkness of the night, created a ruckus for more than an hour and the Kolkata Police fled from the spot. Videos of the entire incident are available. All the actions of the rioters are captured on camera. But till now no one knows who the attackers were? What was their motive? What did they want? Who sent them? Although Kolkata Police is now investigating this case, 24 people have been arrested but Kolkata Police Commissioner has said that the media is responsible for what happened because the media blamed Kolkata Police in the doctor’s murder case, presented the case in such a way that angered people. That is, Kolkata Police Commissioner is saying that the rioters were common people, but Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that this is the work of Ram and the Left. Ram means BJP and the Left means Left Party, who want to create unrest and instability in Bengal. BJP leaders are calling it the handiwork of Mamata’s party. Overall, a round of allegations and counter-allegations is going on but there are many questions.
On Friday, the Calcutta High Court reprimanded the state government and said that this is clearly a failure of the state administration machinery. Chief Justice T.S. Sivagnanam said that how is it possible that a crowd of seven thousand people has gathered outside the hospital, and the police intelligence agencies are not aware of this. Actually, on the night of 14 August in Kolkata, doctors, nurses and common people had announced to take out a protest march in the name of RECLAIM THE NIGHT. The procession was to start from RG Medical College at around 12 in the night and go till Shyam Bazaar. The purpose of this protest march was to demand to make the night time safe for women. Even before the protest march started, a large crowd gathered outside RG Medical College. People started shouting slogans. This crowd first blocked the way of the protesters, did not let them move forward. After this, hundreds of people from the same crowd entered the college campus, breaking the barricades, the crowd of rioters reached directly where the stage of the protesting doctors was. The rioters did a lot of vandalism there. The doctors who were gathered there had to run away to save their lives out of fear of these goons. The rioters moved towards the main building of the hospital. They started beating people in the emergency ward on the ground floor. There are two emergency wards in the hospital, for men and women. Those who attacked the hospital targeted both the emergency wards. They broke the medical equipment installed there, ruined the MRI machine, destroyed the computer, did not spare the tables, chairs, even the patients’ files.
The hospital staff was shocked to see this crowd of hundreds of people. There were about a dozen policemen on the spot but they did not make any attempt to stop the crowd. The policemen were seen running behind the crowd. After the emergency, these attackers entered the medicine department. They picked up the medicines kept there and threw them away. There are CCTV cameras installed everywhere in the hospital. The rioters broke whatever CCTV camera they saw. After this, the attackers went to the critical care unit on the first floor, which was made for the treatment of seriously ill patients. The rioters entered the CCU and vandalized it. Some people entered the doctors’ changing room, picked up the things kept there and threw them away. The employees hid in various places in the hospital to save their lives from the rioters. Whatever happened in the hospital at night, happened in a very organized manner. An hour later, when most of the rioters fled, the police force arrived. Tear gas shells were fired. But this action of the police was like beating a stick after the snake has run away. The rioters had already done their job and fled. The details given by the doctors and nurses about the night’s attack are heartbreaking. A mob of more than a hundred people attacked the nurses’ hostel. They beat up the nurses and threatened that today they will only vandalise and leave, but tomorrow they will come and rape the nurses. Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal said that a campaign is being run in the media to defame the police. The Police Commissioner is blaming the media, but he forgot that the High Court has raised questions on the Kolkata Police. Due to doubts on the capability and intentions of the Kolkata Police, the case was given to the CBI. The media only reported it.
Regarding last night’s incident, the commissioner sahab is saying that the police force put their lives at stake to save the doctors, but the doctors who saw the mob’s rampage last night said that the police was nowhere to be seen. The doctors saved their lives by hiding here and there. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee called the allegations of Congress, CPM and BJP politically motivated. Mamata said that the attack on the hospital was the work of the Left and Ram, who are plotting to defame her government. Mamata said, ‘Watch the video of the incident, you will see the flag and you will understand. They are making twisted videos using artificial intelligence, they want to show lies as truth. Do not believe them. Mostly fake videos are going viral on social media.’ Think what those parents must be going through, whose only promising daughter was killed by monsters, their daughter’s death has become a political issue. And the doctors who are fighting to get justice for the daughter are being attacked to scare them and to destroy evidence. I am surprised that in a case on which the eyes of the whole country are fixed, an attempt was made to destroy evidence by forcing a mob into the hospital. It is shocking that in a case in which everyone should have put their lives at stake to gather evidence and punish the culprits, such an act took place.
This incident raises many new questions. First, a brutal act was committed against an innocent girl, then an attempt was made to destroy the evidence at the crime scene. This has brought disgrace to the Kolkata police. Is this an attempt to save some big man? This remains a mystery. A brutal rape took place, a ruthless murder took place, many people were involved in this. This is now a fact, everyone knows this. But answers to many questions are yet to be found. I want to put some things in front of you in a systematic manner. According to the postmortem report, the brutality with the doctor’s daughter happened between 3 am and 5 am, but the daughter’s parents were informed much later. Why was the family told that their daughter had committed suicide? When the distraught parents reached the hospital, they were not allowed to see the daughter’s body for several hours. Was there an attempt to cover up the matter from the very beginning? Everyone also knows that instead of questioning the college principal, he was given a safe passage of transfer. The court also admitted that if the investigation had remained with the Kolkata Police, there was a fear of evidence being destroyed. After all this, when the case came to the CBI, the mob was allowed to enter the hospital. The crime scene was allowed to be destroyed. The question is who gave the mob the opportunity? Why did the police run away from that place? I ask again, is this a conspiracy to save some big man? It does not matter which video is fake, where AI was used to create a distorted video. Such things make the matter more complicated. The hospital was vandalized, it is not a video game. It is reality and when its truth comes out, many secrets will be revealed.
