Bulldozer demolition in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri has been banned for at least two weeks. After hearing both the sides, the Supreme Court on Thursday asked to maintain the status quo. The next hearing will be held after two weeks. The Supreme Court has asked the government to file an affidavit. Notices have also been issued to NDMC and Delhi Police. A bench of Justices L Nageswara Rao and BR Gavai rejected the demand for a ban on demolition by bulldozers across the country.
Advocates of the petitioners Dushyant Dave and Kapil Sibal, who reached the Supreme Court against the action of bulldozer, argued in the court that a particular community is being targeted in the name of encroachment. However, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta refuted the allegations and said that Hindus are also among the affected. The Solicitor General also said that this action was already underway and notices were given to the people repeatedly.
