new Delhi . The Election Commission on Saturday announced that bypolls in West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Bihar and Maharashtra will be held on April 12.
“The Commission has decided to hold by-elections for vacant seats in Asansol (Parliamentary Constituency) and Ballygunge in West Bengal, Khairagarh in Chhattisgarh, Bochahan (SC) in Bihar and Kolhapur North in Maharashtra,” the Election Commission said.
According to the EC, the date of issue of gazette notification is March 17 and the last date for filing nominations is March 24. The scrutiny of nominations will be held on March 25 and the candidature can be withdrawn till March 28.
The date of polling will be April 12 and the counting of votes will take place on April 16.
“The model code of conduct in the by-poll districts will come into force with immediate effect,” the EC said.
The commission said that EVMs and VVPATs will be used in all polling stations. Adequate numbers of EVMs and VVPATs will be made available.
Photo ID will be the main document to prove the eligibility of the voter. However, Aadhaar Card, MGNREGA Job Card, Passbook with photograph issued by Bank/Post Office, Smart Card issued by RGI under NPR, Indian Passport, Pension, Labor, Driving License, PAN Card, Smart Card issued under the scheme of Health Documents with photograph, Insurance Smart Card, Service Identity Card with photograph issued to employees by Central/State Government/PSU/Public Limited Companies, MPS/MLA/MLC and Unique Disability ID (UDID) card will be considered as official identity proof.
