Can you convert a bike into an electric engine?

Ghaziabad’s RTO administration Rahul Srivastava, while talking to News 18 Hindi, says that till now no order has been received from the Transport Ministry to convert old cars, bikes or scooters into electric vehicles. In our district, if such vehicles are found running on the road, they are caught and sent for scrap. If vehicles registered from another district are found, a fine of Rs 5000 is imposed on them and the concerned RTO is informed about this. Under Section 52 of the Motor Vehicles Act of the Government of India, you cannot install an electric engine in a petrol engine bike.

People are getting the petrol engine and gear box removed and the electric engine fitted in the vehicle. But, when the transport department notices such vehicles running on the road, such vehicles are also sent to scrap. Therefore, you should not make any such changes in your bike, which will change the information in your registration certificate. This is an illegal act. The administration can also take action against you for this.
