The Central Government told the Kerala High Court on Monday that four Union Ministers are being sent to coordinate the work of safe evacuation of about 19,000 Indians stranded in Ukraine. Assistant Solicitor General (ASG) Manu S, in an affidavit filed before Justice N Nagaresh, said that immediate steps are being taken to bring back the students.
The ASG said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in constant touch with embassies in Ukraine and neighboring countries. Along with this, talks have also been held with the Russian ambassador to evacuate the students. He said that the Russian government has assured its cooperation in this matter.
This affidavit has been filed on the petitions of Kerala High Court Advocates Association and two other members. A petitioner’s daughter is stuck in Ukraine. Counsel for the petitioners, Santosh Mathew, said that students trapped in war-torn Ukraine’s Kyiv and Kharkiv are facing difficulties in their evacuation.
