Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath has declared a public holiday in Maharashtra on the day of Dahi Handi. Shinde on Friday said that Dahi Handi, a very popular festival of Maharashtra, will be declared a public holiday across the state. Shinde further said that till now only in some districts of the state, the collectors of that district used to issue public holiday notices for Dahi Handi in their districts, but this holiday would be in all the states. For this, he will also talk to the Chief Secretary and will ask to issue notice for the entire state holiday on the day of Dahi Handi.
It is worth noting that Dahi Handi is already celebrated as a public holiday in MMR. Shinde also said that, “Dahi Handi festival is very popular in the state and with the end of the COVID-19 restrictions, this year the festival will also be celebrated in a big way. Let us inform, MLA Pratap Sarnaik had met Eknath Shinde. During the meeting, he had handed over a letter to Shinde, in which he had demanded a public holiday on the day of Dahi Handi. Accepting this demand, the Chief Minister has declared a public holiday in the state.
What is Dahi Handi?
Dahi Handi is a very unique and fun festival celebrated in Hinduism, which is dedicated to Lord Krishna. In this, a beautiful pot is filled with curd and tied with the help of ropes at a great height, which the young people climb one on top of the other to form a pyramid. Climbing this pyramid, a young man breaks the dahi handi. Meanwhile, people climb the roofs of their houses and shower water and colors on this pyramid continuously.
