Beijing: The strong action of Modi government in Kashmir has taken the wind out of China and Pakistan’s sails. Ever since Article 370 was removed from Kashmir, China and Pakistan have been struggling like a fish pulled out of water, but they are unable to do anything. Recently, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has again raised this issue before Xi Jinping during his visit to Beijing. Therefore China and Pakistan on Saturday opposed any “unilateral action” to resolve all pending issues in South Asia, including Kashmir.
Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, who is on a visit to China, briefed the Chinese leadership on the situation in Kashmir. The two countries also discussed better coordination between their armies. Sharif’s four-day visit to China, his first since his second term began in March, concluded today. During this visit, Sharif’s focus was on increasing Chinese investment and assistance as his country is facing a severe economic crisis.
Joint statement issued on Kashmir issue
The China-Pakistan joint statement said, “The two sides underlined the importance of maintaining peace and stability in South Asia, the need to resolve all outstanding disputes and opposition to any unilateral action.” It said, “The Pakistani side briefed the Chinese side on the latest developments in the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The Chinese side reiterated that the Jammu and Kashmir dispute stems from history and should be resolved in a fair and peaceful manner in accordance with the UN Charter, relevant UN Security Council resolutions and bilateral agreements.” India has previously rejected such joint statements by China and Pakistan.
