India TV Election Forum: Former Haryana Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Manohar Lal Khattar is contesting from Karnal Lok Sabha as the party’s candidate. Last month, when Naib Singh Saini was made the Chief Minister of Haryana after his removal, it was shocking news for even the biggest political pundits. Khattar told the real story behind this entire incident in India TV’s day-long conclave ‘Chunav Manch’. He told how he himself had come forward and said that the leadership should think about his successor.
‘PM Modi had given hints in the Gurugram meeting itself’
Speaking on the question of suddenly losing the post of Chief Minister, Khattar said, ‘In the public meeting in Gurugram, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had then said that even today we are together and your future is also with us. No one else might have understood this last line, but I did. When Modi ji was giving speech on the stage, the then BJP President of Haryana Naib Singh Saini was also sitting with me. Modi had indicated at the same time that your future (Nayab Singh Saini) is also with us. I did not share this topic with the public then, but I am sharing it today.
‘…then no one is more fortunate than him’
Former CM Khattar told how he himself had talked to the top leadership to find his ‘successor’. He said, ‘I told Modi ji at that time that there is no more fortunate person than a person who hands over the work to his successor in front of him. It has been more than 8 years, now I will be happy if you declare someone as my successor. This is more than a year old. This is from July 2022. I had also told this to JP Nadda ji at that time. In this interview with India TV, former CM Khattar remembered the old days spent with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and talked in detail about their relationship.
