Chennai. The Coimbatore Forest Range Office in Tamil Nadu has warned people of possible elephant intrusion as many elephants are in areas bordering forest land. The department alerted the locals living in the colonies Pudur, Katta Salai, Rayuthupati, Athi Mariamman Kovil, and CRPF camps in Periyanaikenpalayam range, Kovai Pudur in Madukkarai range and Poothampalam in Mettupalayam range.
The department has asked people not to sleep outside in the morning and late at night and not to step out of their homes.
The forest range also reported that there had been 96 incursions of wild elephants into people’s settlements in the late and early morning hours from March 1 to March 16. The department said the movement of elephants was captured in the CCTV cameras installed along the boundaries of the forest range.
A senior official of Coimbatore forest range told -AnyTV News, “Elephants have tried to infiltrate about 96 times during the last fortnight, but no damage has been done so far. We have asked people living nearby to be alert and not to step outside.” Warning to leave.”
He said that during 2021 a farmer guarding his farm was killed by wild elephants and if people do not take proper care based on the information given by the department, there could be troubles.
Prasad Ramakrishnan, an avid researcher of elephants, told -AnyTV News, “Elephants are short of water and food and are mainly reaching people’s settlements for this. People are wary of roaming around at night and sleeping outside their homes. Those who have been given a red alert by the forest department. They are roaming in herds and are comparatively less dangerous but sometimes the situation can get worse.”
