Birmingham. The spectacular performance of Indian players in the Commonwealth Games being played in Birmingham, UK continued for the 10th day on Sunday. On Sunday, Indian players won 15 medals including 5 gold, 4 silver and 6 bronze. India is at the fifth position in the tally by winning 18 Gold, 15 Silver and 22 Bronze medals so far. Indian players have also reached the finals of table tennis and badminton and this has ensured 4 more medals. Talking about the victories of Indian players in competitions, Neetu Ghangas, Amit Panghal and Nikhat Zareen won gold in boxing. Neetu beat England’s Boxer 5-0. Panghal defeated McDonald with his punch in the 48 to 51 kg category. Late night Sagar Ahlawat lost in the boxing match. He got silver.
Talking about other medals, in athletics, Indian men got two medals in triple jump. In this event, Aldhaus Paul won the gold and Abdullah Abubakar won the silver medal. Annu Rani won the bronze medal in the women’s javelin throw. Whereas, Sandeep Kumar was also a bronze medalist in the 10 km walk. Achant Sharath Kamal and G. Sathiyan collected silver medal in men’s doubles. Achant and Sreeja Akula also grabbed gold in the mixed doubles of table tennis. Achant will now play men’s singles. That is, India will get at least one more silver medal in this event.
On the other hand, India’s women’s hockey team ended the drought after 16 years by winning a medal again in the Commonwealth Games. Indian team won the bronze medal by defeating New Zealand. Whereas, in the final of women’s cricket, the Indian team was defeated by Australia by 9 runs. India got silver medal in this game. Dipika Pallikal and Saurav Ghoshal won the bronze in the mixed doubles of squash. Whereas, Kidambi Srikanth won the Bronze for the country in Badminton Men’s Singles. Gayatri and Trisha Jolly were also bronze medalists in women’s doubles of badminton.
