The matter, listed before a bench of Justices UU Lalit, Ravindra S Bhat and PS Narasimha on Wednesday, was adjourned on the request of senior amicus curiae advocate Jaideep Gupta. The top court had convicted Mallya of contempt of court for transferring $40 million to his children in violation of the court’s order. In the last hearing, the Supreme Court, while giving Vijay Mallya a last chance to reply, had said that it would be decided to proceed with the issue of punishment only in Mallya’s absence.
The court had also said that if Mallya does not present his case, then the court will pursue the matter on legal grounds. Mallya was convicted in 2017 of defying court orders for not giving accurate details of assets. The Supreme Court has also rejected the review petition filed by Mallya on this decision of the court.
