India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan held important discussions on Passenger and Goods Carrier Protocol. According to the statement of the Ministry of External Affairs, India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan held a meeting on March 7-8 on the Bhutan, Bangladesh, India and Nepal Motor Vehicle Agreement (BBIN MVA). Bhutan participated as an observer in this meeting.
The meeting discussed the Passenger and Goods Carrier Protocol which is necessary to implement the BBIN MVA Agreement for the purpose of regulation of passenger and goods carrier traffic transport between India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan. The agreement was signed on 15 June 2015. Outlining the commitments to implement the BBIN MVA agreement, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was finalized in the meeting which will be signed, the statement said.
According to the statement, all countries expressed the need to expedite the implementation of the Motor Vehicle Agreement (MVA) to facilitate business and promote people-to-people contact. The Indian delegation in this meeting was led by Smita Pant, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs. The Bangladesh delegation was led by ATM Rakibul Haque, Director General South Asia in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Nepalese delegation was led by Transport and Infrastructure Minister Keshav Kumar Sharma and the Bhutan delegation was led by Thinley Noybu, First Secretary, Bhutanese Embassy.
