On other days only two people will be allowed. Root said that the Netherlands is again moving towards lockdown from tomorrow. During a press conference held on Saturday, he said that in view of the increasing cases of infection due to Omicron variant in the country, the decision of lockdown has been taken. Prime Minister Rutte said, ‘The Netherlands is once again going into lockdown. Omicron is spreading faster than we feared.’ The new lockdown in the Netherlands will start at 5 am on Sunday and will be in effect till January 14. According to the Prime Minister, there is a need for strict lockdown in the country as the fifth wave of the pandemic is moving towards us with Omicron. Only essential shops such as supermarkets, medical contacts and car garages will remain open. While other shops, all educational institutions, catering industries, restaurants, museums, theaters and zoos etc. will remain closed.
At the same time, a senior British scientist has said that if there is no lockdown in winter, then the death toll from omicrons in the country could reach 4,000. Significantly, 10,000 cases of Omicron were reported in Britain within a day, bringing the total number of infected people to 25,000.
