The corona epidemic has started taking a formidable form in China. In such a situation, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has advised students wishing to study in universities in China to be “aware” of the COVID related travel restrictions implemented by the neighboring country. It is said that due to this many students have not been able to return there to continue their studies. The UGC also said that there has been no relaxation in restrictions and the Chinese authorities have said that the courses will be taught online.
However, as per the rules, the UGC and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) do not recognize such degree courses conducted only through online mode without prior permission, the UGC said in a public notice. The notice comes at a time when some Chinese universities have earlier issued notices for admission to various degree courses for the current and upcoming academic years.
The UGC said, “In this context, any prospective student should be aware that the Chinese government has imposed strict travel restrictions in view of COVID-19 and has suspended all visas from November 2020. A large number of Indian students have not been able to return to China to continue their studies due to these restrictions.
It said there was no relaxation of restrictions and the Chinese authorities have said that the courses will be taught online. The UGC said in the notice, “As per the extant rules, UGC and AICTE do not recognize such degree courses conducted only through online mode without prior permission. Keeping this in mind, students are advised to choose wisely from where they want to pursue higher education, so that they do not face further difficulties in employment or higher education.
