To capture the Lohardaga Lok Sabha seat for the fourth consecutive time, BJP has cut the ticket of its MP and fielded former Rajya Sabha member Samir Oraon. He is pitted against Congress candidate Sukhdev Bhagat and JMM’s current Bishunpur MLA Chamra Linda, who is contesting as an independent candidate. Apart from these, 12 more candidates are in the fray.
In the last three elections, the margin of victory and defeat has been less than 20 thousand votes. If we look at the data released by the Election Commission, BJP candidate Sudarshan Bhagat won by a margin of 8,283 votes in the 2009 elections and by 6489 votes in 2014. Whereas, in 2019, he won by just 10,363 votes. Since 1998, in only one election, the candidate has won by a margin of 90,255 votes. Overall, the history of Lohardaga Lok Sabha seat says that there has been a close contest here.
