Cyber fraud: In the last few years, cases of cyber fraud have increased rapidly. A recent survey claims that in the last 3 years, 47 percent of Indians have experienced one or more financial frauds. This figure is shocking. Half of the population of the country of 140 crores is currently on the target of cyber criminals. This survey also claims that the most common fraud is related to UPI and credit card.
In this latest survey of Local Circles, 43 percent of the people have admitted that fraudulent transactions have been recorded on credit cards. At the same time, 36 percent of the people say that they have suffered fraud in UPI transactions. In the last 3 years, 6 out of every 10 Indians admitted that they do not report fraudulent transactions to law enforcement agencies or regulators.
Cases increased by 166 percent
Apart from this, if we look at the data of RBI, then in the last financial year 2023-24, cases of cyber fraud have increased by 166 percent. According to the Reserve Bank, more than 36 thousand cases of cyber fraud have been reported during this period. In this financial year, cyber thugs have defrauded people of Rs 13 thousand 930 crores. Cyber criminals are defrauding people in new ways every time.
Recently, many cases of fraud by impersonating as Customs officers have come to light. Cyber criminals intimidate people by posing as Customs officers and then commit fraud with them. CBIC has also run a social media campaign on this.
CBIC warned
CBIC warned people in its social media advertisement that such phone calls to people who do not order parcels are scams. The Customs Department never calls anyone and asks for charges. Apart from this, people should also keep in mind that they should never share their personal and bank details with anyone.
