Hospice . Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama on Monday delivered a message of ‘compassion and unity’ on the occasion of Vesak. After six years of penance, Gautam Buddha attained Bodhitva on the day of Vesak.
The Dalai Lama said, “Based on his own experience, the Buddha said that monks and scholars, like gold, are tested by heating, cutting and rubbing in a fire. Similarly, my teachings are also simply out of respect for me. No, but it should be accepted only after a thorough examination.”
The spiritual leader, known for his simplicity and joyful style, said, “It reveals a special quality of the Buddha. I respect all religious traditions. They are very valuable because they all teach compassion.”
He said, “Only the Buddha has asked us to examine his teachings the way a goldsmith tests the purity of gold. Only the Buddha commands us to do so. Another of his key instructions was this, the sage Ahitkar.” They do not wash their works with water, nor do they remove the sufferings of living beings with their hands, nor do they transplant their experiences into others.”
He said, “Teaching of truth liberates beings. So Lord Buddha, who is compassionate by nature, says that he cannot simply transfer his own spiritual experience and realization to his disciples by love and compassion. “
The Dalai Lama, who took the Buddha’s teachings to the international community, said that disciples should develop their spiritual experience by reflecting on the truths of the Tathagata in accordance with the Buddha’s teachings.
The Dalai Lama believes in three commitments. These include promoting intrinsic values as a source of genuine happiness, promoting inter-religious harmony, and preserving Tibet’s language, culture and environment.
The Dalai Lama, a Nobel Peace Prize winner, sees himself as a simple Buddhist monk.
