Captain Shiva Chauhan, along with other personnel, became the first woman officer to be actively deployed in the world’s highest battle field, Siachen, after a month’s rigorous training at the Siachen Battle School. Captain Shiva Chauhan of Rajasthan is a Bengal Sapper officer. He has completed his schooling from Udaipur and holds a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from NJR Institute of Technology, Udaipur. He lost his father at the young age of 11 and his mother who is a housewife took care of his studies. Right from his childhood, he was inspired to join the Indian Armed Forces and showed unparalleled enthusiasm during training at OTA, Chennai and was commissioned into the Engineer Regiment in May 2021.
Covering a distance of 508 kms from Siachen War Memorial to Kargil War Memorial, organized on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas in July 2022. In one year of youth service, Captain Shiva successfully led the Sura Soi Cycling Expedition. The officer then took up the challenge of leading the men of the Sura Soi Engineer Regiment to the world’s highest battlefield and on the basis of his performance was selected to undergo training at the Siachen Battle School.
The officer underwent rigorous training at the Siachen Battle School, where he trained alongside officers and jawans of the Indian Army. The training included endurance training, ice wall climbing, avalanche and avalanche rescue and survival drills. Despite various challenges, Captain Shiva successfully completed the training with unflinching commitment and was all set to join the Siachen Glacier. He was included in the Siachen Glacier on 02 Jan 2023 after an arduous climb. The team of sappers led by Captain Shiv Chauhan will be responsible for a number of combat engineering works and will be deployed at the post for a period of three months.
