India players Ramkumar Ramanathan and Yuki Bhambri have performed brilliantly in the Davis Cup Tennis World Group-I playoff match. He gave India a 2-0 lead with two wins against Denmark on Friday (March 4). Ramkumar defeated Christian Sigsgaard. At the same time, Yuki won a resounding victory against Michael Torpgaard.
Sigsgaard’s performance was disappointing against world No. 170 Ramkumar in New Delhi. He looked uncomfortable on the grass court. Ramkumar took advantage of his mistakes. In the first singles match at the Gymkhana Club, Ramkumar won 6-3, 6-2 against world number 824 Sigsgaard. The match between the two players lasted for 59 minutes.
Talking about Yuki Bhambri, he came to play Davis Cup for the first time since 2017. He won against Torpgaard 6–4, 6–4. Bhambri looked completely in rhythm in this match. On the other hand, Torpgaard also played better. He served better than his teammate Sigsgaard, but both Danish players looked troubled on the grasscourt.
India’s star player Rohan Bopanna will land on Saturday. He will face Friedrich Nielsen and Johannes Ingildsen in a doubles match with Divij Sharan. If Bopanna and Sharan win these matches, India will take a decisive 3-0 lead. After winning this match, India will be able to retain its place in the World Group-I. If both the players lose the match, then in the singles event either Bhambri and Ramkumar will have to win.
