New Delhi. The Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) on Tuesday approved three COVID vaccines for emergency use authorization (EUA) for children of different age groups. DCGI has approved Bharat Biotech’s Covaccine for emergency use for children in the age group of 6-12 years.
The drug regulator also approved the biological E’s COVID-19 vaccine Corbevax for children in the age group of 5 to 12 years for emergency use.
In addition to Carbavax and Covaccine, DCGI has also approved Xycov-D (Zydus Cadila Vaccine) for emergency use for children over 12 years of age, in a two-dose regimen.
Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya has given this information in a tweet. He said, “India’s fight against COVID is now stronger. CDSO has approved the use of Covaccine for 6 to 12 age group, Carbavax for 5 to 12 age group and two doses of Zycov-D for those above 12 for emergency use.” has been approved.”
The move comes after a subject expert committee discussed recommendations for emergency use of Covaccine for children aged 2-12 years.
Earlier, the SEC, after a meeting on Thursday, recommended the emergency use of Carbavax, a COVID-19 vaccine from Biologicals E, in children aged 5-12 years.
