Millions of children in India are fed daily under the mid-day meal in government schools. For the health and nutrition of the children, under this scheme lakhs of children are fed food cooked in the school itself. However, sometimes cases of negligence also come to the fore. Something similar was seen in a government school in Haveri district of Karnataka.

According to information received from sources, a dead lizard was found in the food given to children in a government school in a village in Haveri district of Karnataka and around 80 children fell ill after consuming this food. Children who got sick from the food were taken to the nearest hospital. However, all were later discharged as none was in a critical condition.
The district administration has issued a notice to the school for its negligence. It is noteworthy that even before this, rotten eggs were given to children in a government school in Tamil Nadu, in which insects were also infested.
