The 17th season of the Indian Premier League is currently being played. Where 50 matches have been played in the league. Meanwhile, a big news has come out. The average revenue of all Indian Premier League teams in the financial year 2022-23 (FY23) was 23 per cent lower than the pre-Covid-19 year in FY2019, a report said on Thursday. Which is a big thing for the world’s biggest T20 league. Whereas due to the Corona epidemic, even the spectators could not reach the stadium to watch the match. Still, there was a decline in it in 2023.
Teams suffered huge losses
Market intelligence platform PrivateCircle said that if we take inflation into account, the decline in revenues becomes much sharper. An inflation rate of 10 per cent over the last four years would mean the average decline in earnings across all teams in FY23 compared to FY19 was close to 47 per cent. The report says that this huge decline in revenue indicates that the market for IPL is reaching saturation point. The report also studied the market filings of the companies that own the teams. This could be due to various factors such as over saturation of cricket content, changing user preferences, or other entertainment options.
Report data showed that Kolkata Knight Riders had the highest revenue in FY19 at Rs 437 crore, followed by Delhi Capitals at Rs 424 crore and Chennai Super Kings at Rs 418 crore. In FY23, Delhi Capitals had the highest revenue at Rs 367 crore. Gujarat Titans stood second with Rs 360 crore followed by Mumbai Indians. Whose revenue was Rs 359 crore. Their figures are low compared to the top three revenue generating teams in FY 2019.
How many crores was lost
The average revenue across all teams was Rs 394.28 crore in FY2019 and fell to Rs 307.5 crore in FY23. In such a situation, each team has suffered an average loss of Rs 86.78 crore. However, the report states that sponsorship income has increased for all teams.
