New Delhi. After the violence in Jahangirpuri, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) had run a bulldozer against illegal occupants there. The Supreme Court has put a stay on this campaign for the time being. Now the MCD has announced to launch an anti-encroachment drive in areas of Delhi which are allegedly illegally occupied by Rohingya Muslims and Bangladeshis. These areas are Shaheen Bagh, Okhla, Madanpur Khadar and Vishnu Garden. South Delhi MCD Mayor Mukesh Suryan has said that there has been massive encroachment in these areas. We have planned to remove it and will implement it soon. On this move of MCD, the era of heating up of politics and filing of petitions in the courts may start.
Mukesh said that the police would be needed while removing the encroachment. We have asked police personnel. Responding to a question, he said that there is no provision for giving notice for removal of illegal occupants. MCD has given notices to those who have illegally built houses in these areas. The Mayor said that a similar campaign was launched in Najafgarh in the past. There also Bangladeshis had illegally occupied government land.
Mukesh Suryan told that every month MCD conducts encroachment removal campaign. He said that for this a month’s plan is prepared and its information is given to the police. He said that the campaign would go on as per the schedule and it was the responsibility of the police to maintain law and order. Along with this, the police will also have to keep in mind that from where illegal possession is removed, it cannot be re-occupied.
