New Delhi. Strict action of Delhi Police is going on in the case of Jahangirpuri riots. One by one the accused are being caught. The police had arrested 26 people till Monday night. Among them are Ansar, accused of instigating the riot and Sonu Chikna alias Imam alias Yunus, who fired. At the same time, Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana and directed strict action against the culprits of the riots. According to sources, Shah told Asthana that the punishment should be given in such a way that people think ten times before rioting again.
Police is collecting all kinds of evidence in this case. The arrest of the accused is going on since the day of the incident. On the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti, there was fierce violence near Jama Masjid in C block of Jahangirpuri. According to Usha Rangnani, DCP of North-West Delhi, the team that went to nab Sonu, who opened fire, was pelted with stones from his house. A person has been immediately taken into custody from here. It is being told that Sonu is the brother of the crook Salim alias Chikna here. Police has arrested Salim on Sunday itself.
The police have also searched the mosque in Jahangirpuri and the roofs of its adjoining houses several times. Stones were pelted on the procession from these roofs. Another accused Sheikh Hameed has also been arrested. That too is junk. He had given glass bottles to the miscreants to attack. At present, the main accused Ansar and Salim Chikna are on two-day police remand on the orders of the court. 6 accused have been sent to jail. On the other hand, police have also registered a case against those who take out procession on Hanuman Jayanti without approval. It is being told that there were three processions. The first two were approved. The third procession was not approved and violence broke out only during its evacuation.
