Delhi Jahangirpuri Violence: In the Jahangirpuri area of North-West Delhi, 14 people have been arrested so far in connection with the violence that broke out after stone pelting in the procession on Hanuman Jayanti on Saturday evening. Delhi Police has registered an FIR in this case under sections 147, 148, 149, 186, 353, 307, 323, 332, 427, 436, 120B and 27 Arms Act of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
According to the statement of Inspector Rajeev Ranjan posted at Jahangirpuri, the FIR states that the procession was going on peacefully, at 6 pm when the procession reached near C-Block Jama Masjid, a man named Ansar along with his 4-5 others. He reached there with the people and started arguing with the people involved in the procession. As the argument escalated, stone pelting started on both sides.

Due to this there was a stampede in the procession. Appealing to stop the stone pelting and maintain peace, the police tried to separate the two sides, but after a few minutes, slogans and stone pelting suddenly started again from both the sides. After this the control room was informed and the police force was called to the spot.

To handle the situation, senior officials made repeated appeals to the people to maintain peace, but there was continuous stone pelting by one side. To control the situation, 40-50 tear gas shells were fired by the police and the situation was brought under control by dispersing the crowd.
During this, stone-pelting and firing was also done on the police team by the mob, in which Sub-Inspector Medalal posted at Jahangirpuri police station got bullet in the left hand and 6-7 other policemen and 1 civilian also suffered serious injuries.
In this incident, a riotous mob set a scooty on fire and also vandalized 4-5 vehicles. Apart from disturbing the peace in the area, private property was also damaged. The police found a large quantity of stones and broken bottles etc. scattered on the spot.
