Delhi Liquor Case: A law student has reached Delhi High Court demanding bail for Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, arrested in the Delhi liquor scam. In the petition, interim bail has been demanded for the remaining tenure of Delhi CM. It demands release on “extraordinary interim bail” in all criminal cases registered by the ED and the state.
In the petition filed in the court, demanding ‘extraordinary interim bail’ for Kejriwal, he has been transferred from jail to house arrest at his official residence as a relief. Kejriwal has been arrested by ED and CBI in a money laundering case related to the alleged scam in Delhi’s 2021-22 Excise Policy. He is imprisoned in Tihar Jail in judicial custody. The court can hear this new petition on April 22.
In this PIL, citing the example of the murders of people like gangster Tillu Tajpuria and Atiq Ahmed, it has been said that Kejriwal’s safety in jail is in danger. Law student Abhishek Chaudhary has filed this PIL in the name of “We the people of India”. The petition said that so many prisoners have died in the jails of the national capital only because they were not provided timely medical facilities and services, whereas the condition of the prisoners was critical at that time.
Even before this, several petitions were filed in the Delhi High Court to remove Kejriwal from the post of CM, which was rejected by the court saying that it does not come under its jurisdiction, but the matter comes under the jurisdiction of the executive. The angry High Court had also said that while giving instructions not to make a mockery of the judicial process in this way, it said on the third petition that now a fine of Rs 50 thousand will be imposed. You should go to the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi or the President for such a demand.
