In the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the work of re-scheduling the assembly seats has started under the delimitation in Jammu and Kashmir. The Delimitation Commission also held a meeting on Monday regarding this, but the Gupkar gang has stood up against it. Be it the leaders of the National Conference or the leaders of the PDP, all are calling it a conspiracy of the BJP. National Conference and PDP have termed it as a conspiracy of BJP. Along with this, it has been demanded that the delimitation should be done on the basis of 2011 census.
PDP President and former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti opposed the proposal of the Delimitation Commission. He said, “This commission has been created so that people can be divided on religious and regional lines. Their real game plan is to establish a government in J&K that will legitimize the illegal and unconstitutional decisions of August 2019 “
Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference President Sajjad Lone expressed his displeasure over the Delimitation Commission. He said, “Delimitation should be on the basis of population. The same criteria should be used which you use all over India. I cannot believe that this is being done. This is discrimination against the people of Jammu and Kashmir.” “

After this, Sajjad Lone’s party Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference has distanced itself from the Gupkar alliance. Former minister Altaf Bukhari’s party has also rejected the commission’s proposal and opposed it.
At the same time, National Conference President Farooq Abdullah has said that his party will respond to the Commission’s proposal on December 31. Despite so many criticisms, Union Minister Jitendra Singh has said that the National Conference is satisfied with the decision of the Commission.
Now what is this limitation? (Delimitation meaning)
Delimitation means the re-determining of boundaries. The boundaries of any state, whether it is a Lok Sabha or a Legislative Assembly, are determined keeping in mind the population, geography of the districts and social balance. Under Article 82 of the Constitution, the Central Government constitutes the Delimitation Commission only after every census.
The Gupkar gang has been holding meetings against the delimitation. There was a meeting of these leaders on Monday also and there is a meeting of this alliance on 21st December also. These leaders also say that before reaching any conclusion, the leaders of regional parties should also be discussed.
Now the question is why is it being opposed?
Let us inform that in the meeting of the Delimitation Commission on Monday, a proposal was made to increase the assembly seat by 6 in Jammu and 1 in Kashmir. With this proposal, the total assembly seats in Jammu and Kashmir will be 90. The influence of Jammu will also increase in the politics of the state as the seats in this region will go straight from 37 to 43. Apart from this, it is being said that in this proposal 9 seats are proposed for ST and 7 seats for SC community.
Regional parties fear that due to the increase in the influence of Jammu, the BJP may not further strengthen its political hold in Jammu and Kashmir. Till now, only the leader of the single largest party used to sit on the chief minister’s post in Kashmir, where Muslim voters constitute 98.3 percent, while in Jammu this figure is about 61 percent.
