New Delhi. Amidst increasing cases of communal attacks in the country, once again there have been reports of vandalism of idols kept in a temple located in Old Delhi. Idols were vandalized at the 200-year-old Shri Radhakrishna Shiva Hanuman Temple located in Old Delhi’s Charkha Wala. After the demolition of the temple, the local people created a ruckus. People say that ‘this is a very old temple and worship is being done here for many years’. According to locals, the trustees want to demolish the temple and build a market at this place. This is the reason why the idols of the temple have been vandalised. They demand that the temple should remain where it is.
On the other hand, the trustee says that ‘the old priest of the temple had occupied the temple. Ancient fragmentary idols were being worshiped in this ancient temple for years, which is considered inauspicious in Hinduism.’ The trustee says that ‘We have got possession of this temple from the court and for the purpose of renovating the temple, the idols have been removed from the temple. Whereas the local people termed his statement as false and said that we have been worshiping here for years, no idol was broken here.
Seeing the controversy taking hold, the trustee said that ‘we will get the temple constructed again at this place’. On the other hand, if we look at the photos sent by the local people, it is clear that the idols were not fragmented, those idols were worshipped.
