Egypt, one of the world’s largest importers of wheat, has been in trouble due to the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine. Now Egypt’s Supply Minister Ali Moselhi has said in a statement that his government will buy five lakh tonnes of wheat from India. Russia and Ukraine are counted among the largest exporters of wheat in the world.
According to the report of Aaj Tak, Egypt’s Supply Minister Moselhi said after the press conference that we have agreed to buy five lakh tonnes of wheat from India. He also said that the Government of India’s decision of export ban will not apply to the agreement with Egypt regarding wheat procurement. Moselhi also said that Egypt was also in talks with Kazakhstan, France and Argentina.
The central government on Tuesday announced some relaxation in the ban on the export of wheat. It said that wherever a consignment of wheat has been handed over to the customs department for examination and those consignments have been registered in their system on or before May 13, they will be allowed for export.
India has banned the export of wheat to check the steep rise in prices of its staple food grains, amid concerns that wheat production would be affected due to heat and heat. In order to control the retail prices, the government has announced a ban on wheat exports after the retail prices of wheat and its flour have increased by 14-20 percent in the last one year.
