Kathmandu. Nepal’s Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Saturday thanked his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi for the rescue of Nepalese citizens stranded in war-torn Ukraine.
Deuba said on Twitter: “Four Nepalese nationals have just arrived in Nepal from Ukraine via India. Thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Indian government for helping to bring back Nepalese citizens through Operation Ganga.”
India has so far evacuated six Nepalese nationals from Ukraine.
Nepal had sought assistance from the Indian government to rescue its stranded citizens.
The ‘Operation Ganga’ campaign was started by the central government in New Delhi on February 22 to evacuate Indian nationals through the borders of Ukraine’s neighboring countries.
Till March 8, around 18,000 Indians have been brought back through special flights. The number of Indians airlifted by 75 special civilian flights has gone up to 15,521.
The Indian Air Force operated 12 mission flights to bring back 2,467 passengers as part of Operation Ganga and its aircraft carried over 32 tonnes of relief material.
Of the civilian flights, 4,575 passengers were carried by 21 flights from Bucharest, 1,820 by nine flights from Suev, 5,571 by 28 flights from Budapest, 909 by five flights from Koसिसice, 2,404 people by 11 flights from Rezzo and one flight. Through this, 242 people have been brought from Kyiv.
