Eleven people have been arrested after eight people, including two children, were killed in violence in West Bengal’s Birbhum in the early hours of Tuesday. All eight people were killed after houses in Bogtui village were set on fire following the death of Bhadu Sheikh, deputy head of Barshal gram panchayat and resident of Bogatui, in a bomb attack late Monday night, police said. Barshal Panchayat is controlled by the ruling Trinamool Congress.
After this incident, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar are once again face to face. While Dhankhar has described Bengal as a laboratory of human rights violations, Mamata Banerjee has asked him to refrain from making unwarranted statements. After the incident, Trinamool has sent a three-member legislature party under the leadership of Minister Firhad Hakim to take stock of the situation.
Dhankhar told Bengal the laboratory of human rights violations
However, in the meantime, Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar targeted the Mamta government fiercely. He called the violence ‘arson orgy’. Tweeting one of his videos, Jagdeep Dhankhar wrote, ‘The incident of horrific violence and arson indicates that the state is in the hands of a culture of violence and jungle raj. So far 8 people have lost their lives. I have called for a report from the Chief Secretary in this regard. My condolences to the families of the victims.
West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar said, “The violence in Rampurhat indicates a worrying situation in West Bengal. The law and order situation in the state is crumbling. Bengal is a laboratory of human rights violations. I want to cooperate with the government.” Provided that due process of law is followed.”
Mamta said – don’t speak nonsense
Earlier, Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee wrote a letter to the Governor asking him to refrain from making inappropriate statements. West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee urged Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar to “refrain from making inappropriate statements and allow the administration to conduct a fair investigation.” In her letter to the governor, Banerjee said that the state administration has taken immediate steps and constituted a special investigation team (SIT). Senior minister Firhad Hakim has been sent to the spot to take stock of the situation, he said.
Criticizing Dhankhar, the CM said, “It is highly unfair to make sweeping and unnecessary statements instead of paving the way for a fair investigation”. “It is extremely unfortunate and indecent for a person holding such a respectable constitutional post,” he said. Banerjee hit out at the governor and said he prefers to remain silent when “very disgusting” incidents happen in BJP-ruled states.
