Rishabh Chaurasia/Lucknow:Generally people consider allergy as a common problem, but there are some allergic conditions which are important to recognize and understand properly. With this objective, the Department of Respiratory Medicine, King George’s Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow organized a special seminar and awareness program under the aegis of Indian College of Allergy, Asthma and Applied Immunology (ICAAI) and World Allergy Organization.
The program focused on two major allergy problems, urticaria and angioedema. This program was organized under the chairmanship of Dr. Surya Kant, Head of the Department. Professor Rajeev Garg says that this educational program was organized specifically for this reason. So that people can understand about allergic conditions. This program provided in-depth information about the causes, symptoms, and modern treatment options available for those conditions.
These are the symptoms
The main symptom of angioedema is red and itchy rashes on the skin, commonly called hives. Dr. Rajeev Garg explained that these rashes can be caused by various reasons like allergy, infection, medicines or stress. During this lecture, participants were given a deeper understanding of the pathophysiology of these conditions and were taught how to differentiate between the different forms of these conditions.

Professor Surya Kant, former Chairman and Head of the Department of Respiratory Medicine, KGMU, said that diagnosis and treatment of complications of allergy related conditions is important and often poses challenges. He stressed that physicians should obtain the latest information and adopt practical strategies to care for affected patients in challenging situations.
Identification of factors
Dr. Rajeev Garg spoke in detail on the pathophysiology of urticaria and angioedema and explained the methods of their diagnosis and treatment. During this, he also discussed about identifying common triggers and risk factors associated with these conditions. Apart from this, he also talked about the latest advancements in diagnostic techniques like skin tests and laboratory tests. Other faculty members of the department like Dr. R.A.S. participated in this program. All the residents of the department including Kushwaha, Dr. Santosh Kumar, Dr. Ajay Kumar Verma, Dr. Anand Srivastava, Dr. Darshan Bajaj, Dr. Jyoti Bajpai, and Dr. Ankit Kumar were present.
