Due to the increasing ineffectiveness of antibiotics, the government took strict action.
Appeal to doctors of all medical colleges.
Government Warn to Doctors over Anti-biotics: Antibiotics are used to eliminate diseases caused by bacteria. But even in diseases caused by virus or fungus, people use antibiotics indiscriminately. Even the chemists in the drugstore give antibiotics as per their wish. The result is that antibiotics have started losing their effectiveness. When the body actually needs antibiotics, they start becoming ineffective. In view of this situation, the Central Government has taken a big step. The Health Ministry has asked all the doctors of the country to compulsorily explain the reason and its consequences whenever they prescribe antibiotics to anyone. Not only this, if antibiotics are prescribed then tell the patient properly why it is being given.
Everything will have to be told to the doctors
In a letter obtained by our affiliate website CNBC TV 18, Director General of Health Services, Dr. Atul Goyal has appealed to all doctors of medical colleges to exercise mandatory caution while prescribing antibiotics and when advising patients to take antibiotics. So it must be explained why this medicine is being given and what its consequences will be. Also tell why this medicine is being given and for how many days it should be taken. This applies not only to doctors but also to pharmacists i.e. medicine shopkeepers. The Department of Health Services comes under the Ministry of Health of the Central Government.
Chemists will not be able to sell this medicine without prescription
CNBC TV 18 also has a copy of this letter sent to medical colleges. In this letter, it has been said that Article H and H1 of the Drugs and Cosmetics Rule should be followed in letter and spirit, in which the sale of antibiotics by chemists without doctor’s prescription has been banned. While prescribing the medicine, it is mandatory for the doctors to tell about all the reasons and consequences of giving antimicrobial medicine. It has also been said in the letter that misuse and excessive use of antibiotics are one of the main reasons for the ineffectiveness of these medicines. Although there is a possibility of some antibiotics being invented soon after decades, but it is still in the pipeline. In such a situation, judicious use of antibiotics is the only option.
12 lakh people died due to ineffectiveness of medicine
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) i.e. ineffectiveness of antibiotics is a big challenge for the world. The letter also says that due to bacterial AMR, 12.7 lakh people have died in the world in 2019 and drug resistance infection is responsible in some way or the other for 49 lakh deaths. Due to this, many other types of crises have also increased. Due to ineffectiveness of antibiotics, if infection occurs, it is taking a lot of time to cure and the risk of death is also increasing. When someone actually has a bacterial infection, it takes a long time to cure because the medicines are not effective.
