Does blood sugar increase in summer: About 10 crore people in India are victims of diabetes. What is even more worrying is that most people have diabetes but they do not know about it. Therefore this news is important for every person. We all know that in diabetes, the amount of sugar in the blood increases which gradually starts damaging organs like kidney, heart, liver, eyes. The amount of sugar in the blood keeps increasing and decreasing very rapidly. In a healthy person, it moves up and down a little, but in diabetic patients, it starts moving up and down very fast. But the question here is whether blood sugar also increases with increase in temperature. If it increases then how should it be taken care of? How harmful is this for diabetes patients? To find answers to these questions, we consulted Consultant Endocrinologist and Diabetologist at Max Healthcare Gurgaon. Dr. Paras Aggarwal talked to.
Does blood sugar really increase?
Dr. Paras Aggarwal said that there is no direct relation between the increase in sugar level with increasing temperature in diabetes patients, but if the heat increases and your eating habits or lifestyle is not right then it can have an indirect effect. If the amount of carbohydrates in your diet is high. There has been a difference between the earlier routine and the present routine, exercises have either been reduced or done too much, so in these situations the increase in blood sugar is not surprising. Therefore, the increase in blood sugar depends on what you have eaten and what work you have done. Dr. Paras Aggarwal said that in some studies, high temperature has been linked to blood sugar. There are many types of things in this. If diabetic patients do not exercise regularly in summer and their eating habits are not correct, then the sugar level may increase. On the other hand, if patients who are on insulin go out in the sun immediately after taking the insulin, the effect of the insulin may reduce very quickly. But if you are managing everything properly despite being a diabetic, then the heat will not have any effect on you.
Connection of temperature to sugar
Endocrinologist at Cleveland Clinic Dr. Marwan Hemati It is said that we always advise diabetic patients to take precautions in extreme heat and cold. He said that when it is very hot, the increase in sugar level depends on what you are eating and what you are doing. He said that due to high temperature, you will sweat more due to which there will be lack of water in your body. In this situation, if you drink less water then the amount of sugar in the blood will definitely increase. After high blood sugar there will be frequent urination. This situation will further reduce the amount of water in the body. In such a situation, if you do not manage your body properly, you will get trapped in the vicious cycle of blood sugar and dehydration. Therefore, it is important to drink enough water, take proper diet and exercise properly.
Rules to control sugar in summer
Dr. Paras Aggarwal told that whether it is summer or winter, diabetes patients should always take care of their diet. One should consume only those things which the doctor has advised to eat and should eat food at regular time only. Along with this, one should go for walk at regular time only. It is very important to remain physically active. There should be uniformity in eating habits and daily routine. One should get enough sleep and stay away from stress. Do yoga and meditation to relieve stress. In diet, one should consume more seasonal green leafy vegetables, fresh fruits and whole grains.
