Varanasi . The driver of former BJP MLA Surendra Narayan Singh has been arrested by the police. The driver had made purchases of Rs 30 lakh from the salary account of the former MLA. Former MLA’s driver Vivek Singh had shopped for electronics, household, fashion and food items between 2019 and 2021.
Surendra Narayan Singh was a BJP MLA from 2017 to 2022.
The former MLA had lodged a complaint with the Cyber Crime Cell for withdrawing money from his account.
Satyanarayana of IG Range said that after registering a case on the complaint of Surendra Narayan Singh, the Cyber Crime Branch of Varanasi Range conducted a detailed investigation and based on the result arrested his driver Vivek.
On his information, the cybercrime police have recovered two smart TVs, electrical equipment for DJs, amplifiers, sound mixing machines, stabilizers, lights, laptops, coolers, inverters, batteries and many more items worth more than Rs 8 lakh. .
During initial interrogation, Vivek revealed that he used to work as a watchman of Chunar police station in Mizarpur and in February 2018 took up a job as the MLA’s driver for a monthly salary of Rs 9,000. While working for the MLA, Vivek had become like a member of his family.
Singh had given details of his bank account from which he used to receive his salary, as well as a mobile phone to the driver, who used to pay for mobiles and medicines through ATM cards.
In 2019, he downloaded online marketing apps including Amazon, Flipcard and started spending money by online shopping by linking ATM card with those apps. He used to receive the delivery of goods purchased online at his personal address after receiving the OTP on the MLA’s mobile phone.
Till 2021, he spent around Rs 30 lakh from the MLA’s bank account.
