new Delhi. Delhi Police has busted an international narcotics gang and arrested two of its key members with heroin worth Rs 40 crore in the international market. An official gave this information on Tuesday. The accused, identified as Dinesh Singh (57) and Nazir alias Nazim (28), were arrested on March 24.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) said that a team of Special Cell was working on information that an international drug syndicate was operating in the states of Manipur, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Delhi.
The gang members were involved in obtaining supplies of heroin smuggled from Myanmar and supplied it to different parts of the country.
“It took four months to develop this information and during this process the members of this cartel were identified,” the DCP said.
On 24 March, the police received information that Dinesh and Nazir, two members of this gang, had collected a huge consignment of heroin from Jharkhand and would come to Delhi to supply the banned material to one of their contacts.
Subsequently, a police team was formed which laid a trap on the T Point Delhi-Meerut Expressway near ISBT Sarai Kale Khan and nabbed both the accused.
“Six kg heroin i.e. three kg each was recovered from the bags of both the accused. During the search of the car, four kg heroin was hidden in the back seat of the car,” the officer said.
Both the arrested drug suppliers disclosed during interrogation that they are members of a large international drug cartel and were involved in supply of drugs to Delhi-NCR and parts of Uttar Pradesh for the last 5 years.
