Every country of the world wants to progress, wants to move towards development, but the path of progress is not so easy. Sometimes the administration has to take strict steps for development. For the good of many countries, it is also necessary to impose restrictions on those things which may be common to other countries. One such rule is in Singapore, one of the most prosperous countries in the world, where chewing gum is banned.
Singapore is a very prosperous country today. The biggest reason behind this is the discipline of the people here. In fact, the country’s first prime minister, Lee Kuan Yew, wanted the country to develop soon. According to him, the biggest obstacle in development can be lack of discipline. For this reason, Lee imposed several restrictions, one of which was the ban on chewing gum.
After eating chewing gum, people used to throw it anywhere. Which was also found under the seats of trains, in schools, in rivers and gutters. Sometimes the drainage system was also clogged due to chewing gum. Chewing gum was banned in the country in the year 1992 after seeing many problems coming up in the countries due to chewing gum.
After the free trade agreement between the US and Singapore in 2004, it was allowed to eat chewing gum associated with health, although it required a doctor’s prescription. However, even after this, the punishment for spitting chewing gum here and there was further tightened. If caught for the first time, the person can be fined up to 74 thousand rupees, while if the person is caught for the second time, then the amount of punishment is more than one lakh and can also be jailed for 2 years.
