New Delhi. The Enforcement Directorate on Thursday arrested Aam Aadmi Party MLA Amanatullah Khan in a money laundering case related to ‘illegal recruitment’ by the Delhi Waqf Board. Meanwhile, AAP leaders are going to the house of Atishi and Sanjay Singh Khan after their arrest. Amanatullah Khan appeared before the federal agency during the day for questioning in a money laundering case. This happened after the Supreme Court refused to consider his anticipatory bail plea on Monday.
The Supreme Court bench of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and Dipankar Dutta had asked Amanatullah Khan to appear before the anti-corruption agency on April 18 at 11 am. Before entering the ED office, Amanatullah Khan, while talking to reporters, claimed that when he was the chairman of the Waqf Board, he had followed the rules. He said that he had done everything after taking legal opinion and as per the new Act that came into force (for the board). The money laundering case against Amanatullah Khan is related to the FIR of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and three complaints of Delhi Police.
According to the Central Investigation Agency, Amanatullah Khan had earned ‘huge amount of crime’ in cash through illegal recruitment of employees in the Delhi Waqf Board and invested it in purchasing immovable properties in the name of his associates. The ED had alleged that there was ‘illegal recruitment’ of employees in the Waqf Board and ‘illegal personal gains’ were made by wrongly leasing out Waqf Board properties during Khan’s chairmanship (2018-2022).
ED’s interrogation of Amanatullah Khan continues for 9 hours, is another AAP MLA in trouble?
The ED said that ‘the AAP leader earned huge amount of crime in cash from the said criminal activities and this cash amount was invested in the purchase of various immovable properties in Delhi in the name of his associates.’ The investigating agency said that during the raid, evidence of ‘crime’ in both physical and digital forms was seized. Which indicated that Khan was involved in money laundering case. Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party had alleged that this was one of the false cases that were being filed against its party leaders.
