Nagpur. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday raided the residence of high-profile lawyer Satish Uke, who is known for campaigning against former Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. An ED team along with CRPF reached the residence of the lawyer and his brother Pradeep Uke in Parvati Nagar at around 5 am and started the search.
Last week, Satish was acting as a lawyer for Congress state president Nana Patole in a Rs 500-crore defamation case filed against IPS officer Rashmi Shukla in the phone tapping case.
However, it is not clear for which particular case the central agency is probing the high-profile lawyer, though speculations are rife over a property transaction case that is reportedly on the ED’s target.
In Mumbai, Shiv Sena chief spokesperson and MP Sanjay Raut condemned the ED raid and said that since he is the state Congress chief’s lawyer, it would not be surprising if Patole is also raided.
Raut reiterated how the Center and the BJP with the help of central probe agencies are misusing the ED, especially in Maharashtra, in their efforts to topple the government.
Raut said, “A strange situation is being observed in which those giving information and evidence are being punished while the guilty are absconding. In my case, no action has been taken from the PMO despite my complaints against the ED. of it.”
