Reason for shooting still unclear, Perm University is Russia’s oldest university
There has been news of a shooting at a university in Russia on Monday. Russia’s Tass Agency said that one of the attackers suddenly opened fire. At least 4 people are reported to have been injured in this incident. Russian investigators say at least eight students have died so far. This incident of firing is from Perm State University and according to Russian agencies some people have also died in it. Perm State University is located in the city of Perm, Russia and attracts a large number of people from other parts of the country. The attacker has been taken into custody and interrogation is on. A university spokesperson said that it is not yet clear why this firing was done.

The attacker does not have any harmful weapons. Perm State University’s press service has reported that students and staff have locked themselves inside the rooms. Tas news agency said on behalf of the police sources that they have been requested by the university administration not to leave the campus that at the time of the incident some students even tried to save their lives by jumping from the windows. Local police force is also present at the spot.

Perm University is the oldest university in Russia and was founded in 1916. This university was established in Perm as a branch of Saint Petersburg University. The government of Russia established this university taking into account the geographical and cultural strategies of the Ural economic region. The purpose of opening this university was to promote higher education among the Ural people. Today This university has 12 faculties, 77 departments and 2 branches. According to the data of the year 2010-11, the total number of students here is 11,432. Out of which 7602 students are full time students. This university has specialization in 56 postgraduate courses and 6 doctoral specialization courses.
