The Election Amendment Bill has been passed related to the elections in the Lok Sabha. In this bill, it has been announced to link the voting card with the Aadhar card. Before passing the bill, parties like Congress, Trinamool Congress, AIMIM, RSP, BSP had opposed this bill. At the same time, Congress had also demanded to send this bill to the Standing Committee of Parliament for consideration.
This speech was introduced in Lok Sabha by Law Minister Kiren Rijiju. Through this, it has been proposed to amend the Representation of the People Act, 1950 and the Representation of the People Act, 1951. Terming all the apprehensions of the opposition members as baseless, Kiren Rijiju said that the arguments given by the opposition members for opposing the bill are an attempt to misrepresent the decision of the Supreme Court. Congress leader in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury opposed the introduction of the bill, saying it was against the Supreme Court’s decision in the government case against Puttuswamy. “We don’t have a data protection law and there have been cases of data misuse in the past. The bill should be withdrawn and sent to the Parliamentary Standing Committee for consideration,” Congress MP Manish Tewari said. Said that it is beyond the legal authority of the government to introduce such a bill. Apart from this, it has also been said in the Aadhaar Act that Aadhaar cannot be attached in this way. He said, “We oppose it and it should be done.” should be withdrawn.
So Trinamool Congress’ Saugata Roy said that the bill violates the Supreme Court’s rule and is against the fundamental right. That’s why we oppose this bill. AIMIM’s Asaduddin Owaisi said that this is a violation of fundamental rights and right to privacy enshrined in the Constitution. The Bill also repeals the provision of secret ballot. That’s why we oppose it. Congress’s Shashi Tharoor said Aadhaar can only be accepted as a proportion of housing and not as a ratio of citizenship. Linking it with the voter list is wrong, we oppose it.
