New Delhi. Election strategist Prashant Kishore said that the Congress-led ‘India’ alliance is not able to present Rahul Gandhi as a leader who can improve the current situation. He further said that there is no major anger against the current central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi or any strong voice for any challenger. He said, ‘We have not heard anything that things will be better if Rahul Gandhi comes. His supporters may say so, but I am talking about a much larger level. There is a lack of anger against the ruling party. Prashant Kishore said in an interview to NDTV that he lacks a voice to challenge him.
Prashant Kishor also criticized the opposition alliance for failing to announce a prime ministerial face for the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. This is an issue which the BJP is now using against the ‘India’ faction. Prashant Kishor suggested that this was a poor strategic move. This signaled to voters that the Indian coalition lacked a credible face against the ruling party. However, Prashant Kishore said that there is a pain of disappointment and unfulfilled aspirations among a section of voters. The election strategist noted that in the last decade the ‘India’ block ignored many opportunities to weaken the position of PM Modi and the BJP. To further buttress his point, Kishor mentioned that the opposition failed to take advantage of the state election results of 2015 and 2016, when the BJP was losing.

He also mentioned that the opposition lost another chance to take on the saffron party in 2017 when it won a big victory in Uttar Pradesh in over a decade. But it almost lost Prime Minister Modi’s home state Gujarat, where it had ruled continuously since 1995. He also said that the opposition failed to capitalise on the drop in PM Modi’s approval rating following the coronavirus pandemic and the BJP’s dismal performance in the West Bengal elections in 2020. Further, Kishor mentioned that the opposition ‘virtually laid down arms’ after the Ram temple’s ‘praan pratishtha’ ceremony was held in Ayodhya in January this year. Kishor said that ‘by the time the India Bloc swung into action, it was too late… the BJP had already regained its lost ground.’ He said that the BJP will significantly increase its seats and vote share in the southern and eastern parts of the country.
