Motihari. In the Turkaulia police station area of East Champaran district of Bihar, a pet elephant flared up and created a ruckus. During this he also took the life of the mahout. After much effort the elephant was brought under control.
A police officer said on Wednesday that the pet elephant of Anil Thakur of Sariyatpur had gone to attend some function along with the mahout. It is said that in the course of returning, suddenly the elephant got angry due to some reason at night near Pipriyan village and tried to bring down the mahout. Later the elephant killed the mahout by slamming it. The deceased mahout has been identified as Akbar Ansari of Siswa Ajgri village.
After this the elephant created a ruckus in the surrounding fields. During this, many hut-like houses were demolished and crops were damaged in the fields. Seeing the fierce form of the elephant, the villagers remained in panic throughout the night.
The police and the forest department team reached after the information of the villagers, with the help of the local people, overpowered the elephant after a lot of effort.
Motihari Sadar Deputy Superintendent of Police Arun Kumar Gupta told that the raging elephant has killed the mahout. The elephant has been controlled. The body has been sent by the police for post-mortem. Here, there is mourning in the village due to the death of the mahout.
